The Handsome Young Man and The Ugly Young Woman. by NicolaWallace The Handsome Young Man and The Ugly Young Woman. by NicolaWallace
The Merz Box project is a touring exhibition based around the Dada artist, kurt schwitters's fairy tales. I was given the story "The ugly young woman" to illustrate.

Recently I've been obsessed with botanical illustrations, It's a new passion for me and I'm really enjoying it. I usually combine it with my desire (I'm not too sure why i enjoy it) for drawing insects, which I translate into illustrations partly from reference books and partly just make up.

The story reads that, The Handsome Young man gets tired of all the vain pretty girls constantly seeking attention and dares that we will dance with the ugliest woman at the ball. All of the beautiful women get offended and worried that he's hinting they're the ugliest. They don't want to be deemed ugly and start to fight about who's the prettiest. The story states that ugly people have their place in the world, and are more concerned with other matters, so I illustrated the handsome young man pointing maliciously at the ugly young woman, but she isn't concerned with his insults about her looks.

Thankyou ever so much. :) haha This has truly made my day! I've gone all giddy.
Anyway, I'm really happy you like them, I've only started working with digital quite recently, so hopefully I'll get even better at it. Thanks again. :)

Aww no problem at all, really! XD You relly deserve it.
I've also started to practice digital stuff recently, but damn, I'm far from your skills! XD

Hahaha! I don't think I have skills, I think it's all just been a happy accident so far. I just explore the drop down menus of photoshop and see what happens :P
I'm quite lucky because in my studio there's a lot of digital artists, so I get them to help me. (although they probably really hate my constant and stupid questions. hahah)

But that's so cool! I think I just ruin everything if I try something new. KD
How lucky! I also work at this one kind of design studio at the moment and I've learned some cool stuff already. I just started last week!
They don't hate you, don't worry. XD

Its the best way to learn I suppose, I guess you never know what'll work until you give it a try. :)
They're the best environments for creatives, my tutor always used to tell me that it's better to work alongside others than sit on your own at home. Haha I never used to listen! Its amazing how much stuff you pick up too. :)
